Higgsfield API: pricing, free credits and how to get access
The analysis pieces argue about what the Higgsfield API means. This one answers the questions people actually type: what does it cost, is any of it free, and how do I get in?

The short version
- The Higgsfield API launched on 16 September 2026: pay as you go, no subscription at any level, billed per second of video or per image.
- Published starting rates: images from $0.0032 each (Soul 2, Soul Cinema), video from $0.042 per second (Kling 2.5) up to $0.20 per second (Wan 3.0).
- There is no permanent free tier. At launch, accounts that added a card with a business email were offered $15 of credit, and the minimum top-up was reported as $5.
- Access is 4 steps: create an account, add a payment method and top up, create an API key, then call the REST API or the Python and TypeScript SDKs.
- A new key unlocks 20 concurrent requests, failed requests are not charged, funds expire 1 year after top-up, and outputs are stored for at least 7 days.
- If the goal is finished, published content rather than an integration, a no-code studio that already routes to the same models is usually faster and cheaper per approved asset.
The Higgsfield API is a self-serve, pay-as-you-go API that gives developers direct access to more than 50 image and video generation models through one account, one balance and one key. It launched on 16 September 2026 as a standalone product, separate from the higgsfield.ai subscription plans, and it is billed in US dollars per second of video or per image generated.
This guide covers the published prices, the honest answer on free access, the 4 steps to a working key, the limits that matter in production, and the cases where an API is the wrong tool for the job. Every figure comes from Higgsfield's own launch post and developer documentation as of the date above, and prices move, so check the console before you budget.
What is the Higgsfield API?
Quick answer. The Higgsfield API is a developer API from Higgsfield that sells pay-as-you-go access to more than 50 current image and video generation models. You top up a US dollar balance, pay a published rate per generation, and spending stops when the balance hits zero. It is a standalone product: no higgsfield.ai subscription is needed, and subscription perks such as unlimited generations do not apply to it.
The model catalogue spans third-party families including Seedance, Kling, Wan, MiniMax, LTX, PixVerse, Recraft, Ideogram and Grok, alongside Higgsfield's own Soul 2, Soul Cinema, DoP and Marketing Studio Image models. Requests are asynchronous: you submit a job, receive a request id with a status URL and a cancel URL, then poll or wait for a webhook when processing finishes.
The base URL is api.higgsfield.ai, keys are created in the Higgsfield Console, and the reference documentation lives at docs.higgsfield.ai. For the strategic view of why Higgsfield opened this door and what it means for competing platforms, the guide named "Higgsfield opened its API. Why that might help its competitors" covers the argument in full.
How much does the Higgsfield API cost?
Pricing is per generation, in US dollars, at rates that vary by model and by resolution. Video is billed per second of output and images per image. These are the starting rates Higgsfield published at launch. Higher resolutions and longer durations cost more, so treat the table as a floor, not a quote.
| Model | Type | Starting rate |
|---|---|---|
| Soul 2 | Image | $0.0032 per image |
| Soul Cinema | Image | $0.0032 per image |
| Marketing Studio Image | Image | $0.0059 per image |
| Kling 2.5 | Video | $0.042 per second |
| Kling 2.6 | Video | $0.07 per second |
| Seedance 2.5 | Video | $0.0738 per second |
| Kling 3.0 | Video | $0.112 per second |
| LTX 2.5 Pro | Video | $0.17 per second |
| Wan 3.0 | Video | $0.20 per second |
In practice that means a 10-second Kling 2.5 clip at the base rate is about $0.42, a 10-second Kling 3.0 clip about $1.12, and a 10-second Wan 3.0 clip about $2.00. Early third-party coverage put Seedance 2.5 at its top resolution closer to $0.18 per second, which makes a 15-second clip roughly $2.70, so the gap between base rate and best-quality rate is wide. Budget on the setting you will actually ship.
- No subscription at any level. You are never paying a monthly fee to keep the key alive.
- Failed requests are not charged.
- Funds expire 1 year after they are added to the balance.
- Higgsfield states that the same model costs less through the API than through its subscription plans.
The number that matters. Price per generation is the headline. Cost per approved asset is the truth: every retry, every prompt revision and every minute of human review sits on top of the rate card. A cheaper model that needs 4 attempts costs more than a dearer one that lands in 2.
Is there a free Higgsfield API tier?
No. There is no permanent free tier and no free monthly allowance. The API is pay as you go from the first request, and you need a payment method on file before a key will spend anything.
What did exist at launch was promotional credit. Higgsfield offered $15 of free credit to accounts that connected a card with an eligible business email, ran a 7-day launch discount of 15% on selected models, and was reported to accept a minimum top-up of $5. Those were launch-window offers, and the console is the only reliable source for what is live today.
If what you want is to try the models rather than build against them, the cheaper route is a studio that already runs them. Cat Claw is free to sign up, runs Higgsfield's SOUL 2, SOUL Cinema, Soul ID and Marketing Studio Image inside its own studio on this same API, and quotes the credit price before every render, so you can test the look on real briefs without writing a line of code or committing a top-up. Training a Soul ID from your own photos costs nothing.
How do you get Higgsfield API access?
There is no waitlist. Access is self-serve and takes minutes once you have a card to hand.
- Create an account. Sign up at the Higgsfield Console as a person or a company. A company account is the one to pick if you will ever need invoices in the business's name.
- Add a payment method and top up. Attach a card and load a US dollar balance. Generations draw from that balance at the published rate and stop automatically when it reaches zero, so you cannot accidentally run up a bill beyond what you have loaded.
- Create an API key. Keys are server-side credentials made up of a key id and a secret, sent as an Authorization header in the form Key id:secret. Keep them out of client-side code. A new key unlocks 20 concurrent requests, and that ceiling rises with your account's top-up volume.
- Integrate and ship. Call the REST API directly or use the official Python or TypeScript SDK. Submit a job, store the request id, then either poll the status URL or register a webhook to be told when the output is ready. Download finished files to your own storage, because Higgsfield keeps them for a minimum of 7 days, not forever.
Limits, storage and commercial terms
The things that bite in production are rarely the prices. They are the limits you did not read before launch day.
| Item | What Higgsfield publishes |
|---|---|
| Concurrency | 20 concurrent requests per new key, increasing with top-up volume |
| Rate limits | No explicit per-minute figures published in the open documentation |
| Output storage | Minimum of 7 days from creation, then download to your own storage |
| Balance expiry | Funds expire 1 year after they are added |
| Failed jobs | Not charged |
| Commercial use | Generated content can be used in commercial products, ads and client work |
| Subscription link | None. The API is standalone and web-plan perks do not apply |
Two practical consequences. First, build your pipeline around the asynchronous pattern from day 1, with a webhook receiver and your own object storage, rather than treating Higgsfield as a file host. Second, if your volume is spiky, the concurrency ceiling is the number to plan around, and it grows by spending rather than by asking.
When is an API the wrong tool?
An API is the right choice when you are building a product: your own app, an automated pipeline, a workflow inside a tool your team already uses. It is the wrong choice when the deliverable is content. A marketing team that needs 20 approved product clips this week does not need a request id. It needs a studio.
| Category | Higgsfield API | Cat Claw studio |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Developers and teams building products or pipelines | Creators, marketers and agencies making finished content |
| Getting started | Account, card, top-up, key, code | Free sign-up, no card, pick a model and render (leads) |
| Model choice | 50+ models through one key | Image, video, music and voice models on one credit balance, Higgsfield SOUL 2, SOUL Cinema and Soul ID included |
| Iteration | Prompt, poll, download, review in your own tooling | Prompt, render, compare and refine in the same workspace, credit price shown first (leads) |
| Publishing | Your responsibility, after download | Post to around 15 social platforms from the same workspace (leads) |
| Custom automation | Full control over every call (leads) | Studio tools, plus an MCP connector for ChatGPT and Claude |
The 2 routes are not rivals so much as different layers. Plenty of teams will use both: a studio for the day-to-day creative work and an API for the one automated flow that genuinely needs code. For a fuller product comparison, the guide named "Higgsfield vs Cat Claw: two platforms built for different jobs" walks through it feature by feature. The cat has read the pricing page twice and remains, as ever, unbothered by concurrency.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the Higgsfield API cost?
It is pay as you go in US dollars with no subscription. Published starting rates at launch were $0.0032 per image for Soul 2 and Soul Cinema, $0.0059 per image for Marketing Studio Image, and per-second video rates from $0.042 (Kling 2.5) through $0.0738 (Seedance 2.5) and $0.112 (Kling 3.0) up to $0.20 (Wan 3.0). Higher resolutions cost more.
Is the Higgsfield API free?
No. There is no permanent free tier. At launch Higgsfield offered $15 of credit to accounts that added a card with a business email, plus a 7-day 15% discount on selected models. Failed requests are never charged. To try the models without code or a top-up, a studio that already runs them, such as Cat Claw, is free to sign up and quotes the credit cost before each render.
How do I get a Higgsfield API key?
Create an account in the Higgsfield Console, add a payment method and top up a balance, then create an API key. The key is a key id and secret pair sent as an Authorization header. It unlocks 20 concurrent requests, and that limit rises with your top-up volume.
Do I need a Higgsfield subscription to use the API?
No. The API is a standalone product with no subscription at any level. Perks from higgsfield.ai web plans, such as unlimited generations, do not apply to API usage, and Higgsfield says the same model costs less through the API than through a subscription.
Which models are available through the Higgsfield API?
More than 50 image and video models. Families named at launch include Seedance, Kling, Wan, MiniMax, LTX, PixVerse, Recraft, Ideogram and Grok, plus Higgsfield's own Soul 2, Soul Cinema, DoP and Marketing Studio Image.
What are the Higgsfield API rate limits?
Higgsfield publishes a concurrency limit rather than a per-minute rate: 20 concurrent requests for a new key, increasing with top-up volume. Explicit rate limits are not published in the open documentation, so design for the asynchronous job pattern and use webhooks rather than tight polling.
How long does the Higgsfield API keep my generated files?
For a minimum of 7 days from creation. Download completed outputs to your own storage for anything you need to keep.
Can I use Higgsfield API output commercially?
Yes. Higgsfield states that content generated through the API can be used in commercial products, ads and client work. As with any model, check the current terms for the specific model you use and the disclosure rules of the platform you publish to.
Should I use the Higgsfield API or a no-code studio?
Use the API if you are building a product or an automated pipeline. Use a studio if the deliverable is finished content. Cat Claw runs image, video, music and voice models on one credit balance, includes Higgsfield SOUL 2, SOUL Cinema, Soul ID and Marketing Studio Image, quotes the price before every render and posts to around 15 platforms from the same workspace.
Want the models without the key management?
Cat Claw runs Higgsfield's SOUL 2, SOUL Cinema, Soul ID and Marketing Studio Image alongside Seedance, Kling, Wan and the rest on one credit balance, with the price quoted before every render and publishing built in. Free to sign up, no card needed.
