The sequel test: can an AI-produced artist come back?

Anyone can release one striking AI-made video. The harder question, and the one the music industry actually cares about, is whether an AI-native artist can do what real artists do: come back, evolve, and carry an audience from one release to the next.

Voicemail, the second single from Skylark, is built to answer that. Released by Winwick Records and VoxaRox in association with Cat Claw AI and out on 2 October, it picks up exactly where Static left off. Static was a record about chasing someone you can't get a clean signal on. Voicemail flips the power: now he's the one calling. Seven missed calls, essays in the message box, a man reduced to a red London telephone box in the rain, and she's out having the night of her life. The chorus is built on the most familiar sound in Britain: leave it after the tone.

The record moves faster and hits harder than the debut. 138 BPM, shuffled UK garage drums, a rolling sub, layered chorus harmonies and a telephone beep woven through the production as a recurring sonic signature. The lyric even quotes the first single back at its subject, "you said I was static, remember", the kind of canon-building detail that turns two singles into a story.

The line that matters. One AI music video is a demonstration. Two connected ones, with the same star, the same world and a continuing story, are a production company.

The video was made the same way Static's was: no film set, no crew, no location days. The same lead character returns with an evolved wardrobe and visual identity, the same cinematic language carries over (the cold blues, the violets, the phone-signal motifs) and the story deliberately mirrors and inverts the first film. Where Static ended with a door opening, Voicemail opens on what happened after. Character persistence across one video was the achievement last time. Character persistence across a franchise is the achievement now.

What changed between Static and Voicemail

The second production ran on lessons from the first. The differences are practical, and they are the useful part for anyone studying AI-native production.

The technology behind the video

Cat Claw AI is a UK creative studio, operated by Voxarox Limited in London, specialising in the generation and distribution of digital content. For Voicemail, as for Static, it functioned as the AI creative direction and orchestration platform: the environment that brought several generative technologies into one production workflow.

  • Cat Claw AI (Creative direction and orchestration): The production environment for the project. Cat Claw AI set how the generative tools were sequenced, referenced and managed, so the returning character, the sequel story and the visual identity stayed consistent, within this video and with the first one.
  • FAL Agents (Generative creative and production pipeline): Used within the generative pipeline to run coordinated production tasks, including agent-driven generation of the video's sections from a structured production brief.
  • MiniMax H3 (AI video generation): Used as part of the advanced AI video generation process, contributing the performing and cinematic sequences synchronised to the track.

Supporting tools in the wider pipeline included character reference systems for identity persistence, image generation for wardrobe development, cover art and campaign stills, and music generation for the track itself, all orchestrated within the same workflow.

The AI production pipeline

The pipeline behind Voicemail followed this sequence. Every stage was directed by people; the AI tools worked inside it, and the first single's workflow was the starting point for each step.

  1. Sequel concept. A story that mirrors and inverts the first film, set by the human creative team. Where Static ended with a door opening, Voicemail opens on what happened after.
  2. Character continuity. Skylark carried by a multi-angle character reference sheet, so her identity persists across every scene and across both videos.
  3. Wardrobe evolution. Three looks in one film, developed through image generation inside one consistent identity.
  4. Visual identity. The cold blues, the violets and the phone-signal motifs carried over from Static, so the two films cut together as chapters of one story.
  5. Music and sonic branding. The track generated and finalised, with a telephone beep printed into the master as a recurring signature.
  6. Section renders. Agent-driven generation of the video's sections from a structured production brief, using Cat Claw AI, FAL Agents and MiniMax H3.
  7. Edit and campaign. Sequences edited and selected, then cover art, thumbnails, teaser films and press assets produced from the same workflow in the same visual identity.
  8. Distribution. Released through Winwick Records and VoxaRox to every major streaming platform via Ditto, with the pre-save open ahead of 2 October.

Who is Skylark?

Skylark is the artist behind Static and Voicemail. Skylark exists as a musical and visual identity developed through the Cat Claw AI production workflow, and with a second single, that identity now has what every real artist needs: a catalogue, a continuing story and an audience that came back.

The project remains deliberate in what it reveals and what it holds back. The question of where the artist ends and the technology begins was the open question of the first release. The second release adds a sharper one.

The open question, part two. If an artist can return, evolve and build a world across releases, how much does it matter how she was made?

When Skylark released Static, the question was whether a genuinely AI-native music release could stand up as a real record with a real cinematic music video. Voicemail, out 2 October from Winwick Records and VoxaRox in association with Cat Claw AI, answers the harder follow-up question: whether an AI-native artist can come back.

Voicemail is a direct sequel. Static told the story of a woman chasing a partner she could never get a clean signal on. Voicemail reverses the charge: he is the one calling now, and she has stopped picking up. The record is faster, cheekier and more club-ready than the debut. UK garage-influenced drums at 138 BPM, a rolling sub, stacked chorus harmonies, and a telephone beep threaded through the production as a recurring sonic signature. The lyric quotes the first single back at its subject, and the video answers the first film shot for shot: the woman who stared at a static-filled television in film one spends film two deleting messages without reading them, while the caller stands in a red London telephone box in the rain.

The accompanying music video was produced, like its predecessor, without a traditional film set, crew or location infrastructure. The production ran through the same coordinated AI pipeline: Cat Claw AI as the creative direction and orchestration layer, FAL Agents within the generative creative and production pipeline, this time running agent-driven generation of the video's sections from a structured production brief, and MiniMax H3 as part of the advanced AI video generation process.

The significant technical development between the two releases is persistence. The same lead character returns with a consistent identity and an evolved wardrobe, the visual world carries over intact, and the two films cut together as chapters of one story. Character consistency within a single AI-produced video was the benchmark of the first release. Continuity across a franchise is the benchmark of this one.

The creative direction behind Voicemail was human throughout: concept, sequel story, character evolution, wardrobe, lighting, camera language, edit, pacing and final selection. The AI tools executed and assisted that direction within the pipeline built for them. Voicemail is a British independent release, made in London with British-built production infrastructure, and it extends the UK's position at the intersection of AI and entertainment production.

AI music video FAQ

What is Voicemail by Skylark?

Voicemail is the second single from Skylark, released by Winwick Records and VoxaRox in association with Cat Claw AI, out 2 October 2026 on all major streaming platforms. It is the direct sequel to Skylark's debut single Static, continuing the same story with the same characters, and its music video was produced entirely through an AI filmmaking workflow in the UK.

When is Voicemail by Skylark released?

Voicemail is released on 2 October 2026 on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music and other supported platforms. Listeners can pre-save the single now via the official Ditto smart link at https://ditto.fm/voicemail-sky-lark, which routes to their preferred streaming service on release day.

Is Voicemail a sequel to Static?

Yes. Voicemail continues the story of Static, Skylark's debut single featuring Dexter Koh. Static was about chasing a partner who never gave a clear signal; Voicemail reverses the roles. He is now the one calling, and she has stopped answering. The two music videos share the same lead character, visual world and cinematic language, and are designed to be watched as chapters of one story.

Was the Voicemail music video made with AI?

Yes. The Voicemail music video was produced through an AI filmmaking workflow with no traditional film set or crew. Cat Claw AI provided the creative direction and orchestration layer, FAL Agents ran coordinated generation tasks within the production pipeline, and MiniMax H3 was used as part of the advanced AI video generation process. Human creative direction guided every significant decision from concept to final edit.

How did the video keep the same character as the Static video?

The production used a multi-angle character reference sheet for Skylark, developed within the Cat Claw AI workflow, so her identity could persist not only across every scene of Voicemail but across both music videos. Character persistence across a full video was demonstrated with Static; Voicemail extends that to continuity across a franchise, including wardrobe evolution within a single consistent identity.

What is Cat Claw AI?

Cat Claw AI is a UK creative studio, operated by Voxarox Limited in London, specialising in the generation and distribution of digital content. It operates as an AI creative direction and orchestration platform, bringing multiple generative technologies together into one production environment. Cat Claw AI oversaw the AI filmmaking workflows behind both the Static and Voicemail music videos.

Where can I stream or pre-save Voicemail by Skylark?

Voicemail by Skylark can be pre-saved now and streamed from 2 October 2026 via the official Ditto smart link at https://ditto.fm/voicemail-sky-lark, which routes listeners to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music and other supported platforms. The official music video is on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0IkqbXUzsI.

Can AI produce a whole music campaign, not just one video?

Voicemail demonstrates that it can. The single's music video, cover artwork, YouTube thumbnails, teaser films and press assets were all produced within one coordinated AI workflow, sharing a single visual identity. For independent artists, labels and studios, in London, across the UK and internationally, this is the practical shift: a complete release campaign produced through one pipeline, at a fraction of traditional cost and turnaround.

Is AI replacing music video directors?

No. Voicemail, like Static before it, was directed by people throughout: the sequel concept, story, character evolution, wardrobe, lighting, camera language, edit and final selection were all human decisions. The AI tools executed and assisted that direction. What has changed is the infrastructure a director needs, not the need for a director.
